Professor R. Clive Landis is an experienced medical researcher and university leader who has served as Principal of The UWI Cave Hill Campus since August 1, 2021. A dedicated member of The UWI community since 2004, Professor Landis previously held several key leadership roles, including Deputy Principal (2015–2019), University Pro Vice-Chancellor for Undergraduate Studies (2019–2021), and Chair of both the Zika Task Force and the COVID-19 Task Force.

Originally from Imperial College London, Professor Landis began his UWI journey as a Senior Lecturer at the George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre (GA-CDRC) and was subsequently promoted to Professor of Cardiovascular Research and Director of the Centre. He has published over 150 scientific papers and founded the Edmund Cohen Vascular Research Laboratory at the GA-CDRC.

His research spans cardiovascular disease, wound healing, and most recently, viral infections and public health, including HIV, Zika, and COVID-19. He established the Immunology PhD programme at the Cave Hill Campus and led Barbados’ public HIV laboratory as Honorary Director from 2011–2018, guiding it through international accreditation.

As Chair of The UWI COVID-19 Task Force, Professor Landis contributed valuable insights and policy recommendations on the Caribbean’s pandemic response.

Beyond his academic and administrative achievements, Professor Landis is deeply committed to student-centred education and regional development. He holds dual citizenship in the UK and Barbados, speaks fluent German, and is a proud family man, married with three children.
