Ms. Christianne Walcott

Operations Manager

Bio

Ms. Christianne Walcott joined The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, in 2007 as Project Officer in the then-School of Clinical Medicine and Research, which was later re-designated as the Faculty of Medical Sciences in 2008. This Faculty upgrade, a project for which Ms. Walcott had primary responsibility for several years to follow, was a multifaceted endeavour involving the management and monitoring of multiple civil works projects (renovations and new construction), staff recruitment and student recruitment, which ultimately contributed to the securing of programme accreditation by the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP).

During her eleven-year sojourn with the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Ms. Walcott would go on to hold the positions of Administrative Officer and then Senior Administrative Officer, portfolios which included project management, departmental human resources functions, occupational health and safety, student recruitment and admissions, facilities management, strategic/financial planning, management of external postgraduate examinations, special events management, and community outreach activities. She distinguished herself by becoming a 2014 recipient of the Principal’s Award for Excellence in the Senior Administrative/Professional Category.

Ms. Walcott was temporarily appointed Officer-in-Charge of the Office of Business and Internationalisation for the academic year 2018/2019 (later re-designated as the Office of Business Development during her tenure), working closely with the Offices of the Principal and the then-Director of Institutional Planning during that time, in the oversight of the Campus’s business opportunities and operations, the management of major fundraisers, as well as the award of financial aid to undergraduate students.

In August 2019, Ms. Walcott was appointed as the Operations Manager in the recently-established Centre for Biosecurity Studies. She served as interim Officer-in-Charge until a substantive Director was recruited in July 2020. Ms. Walcott continued to serve in the Centre through October 2021, discharging roles and responsibilities related to the physical start-up of the Centre for Biosecurity Studies and renovation and outfitting of required office spaces, the establishment of operational protocols, the launch and chairing of a quarterly lecture series, serving as Secretary to the Centre’s Advisory Committee, and the early marketing and stakeholder outreach efforts of the Centre.

In November 2021, Ms. Walcott joined the team in the Office of the Principal to pioneer the position of Operations Manager, under the newly-installed Principal, Professor R. Clive Landis. With a B.A. degree in International Relations (Syracuse) and a dual M.A. degree in International Development and Environmental Analysis (Monash), coupled with her pre-UWI professional experience in both the public and private sectors, Ms. Walcott brings her wealth of technical, operational, administrative and leadership experience to bear on the needs and requirements of the Office. She can primarily be found leading, or involved in, endeavours related to governance, strategic planning, accreditation, quality assurance, entrepreneurship, high-level event management, special projects, public speaking, and providing operational guidance and support to the Office of the Campus Registrar where required.
