Mural Unveiled at Cave Hill

A vibrant roadside mural near the main entrance to The University of the West Indies at Cave Hill now helps to depict the history of a leading credit union against a backdrop of rural Barbados. The Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited (BPWCCUL) sponsored artwork which includes its signature emblem and motifs of rustic Barbadian scenery was unveiled on March 31.
Deputy Principal Professor Winston Moore applauded the credit union for its financial contribution to the mural project and its continued support to the campus and students particularly through the provision of scholarships ranging from $7 500 to $9 000. He was addressing an unveiling ceremony attended by campus officials, credit union representatives and artists commissioned to create the mural.
President of the BPWCCUL Board of Directors Courtney Gibson commended the artists for their historic depiction, describing the mural as “a visual testimony of the dedication and hard work of our members, staff, and community partners … who have worked tirelessly to develop a financial institution that is dedicated to providing the means of enhancing the financial, economic and social well-being of its members.”
Speaking on behalf fellow artists Rasheed Boodhoo and Don Small who worked on the project alongside him over several months, renowned and principal artist Neville Legall, expressed his gratitude to the university and the credit union for the opportunity to showcase their talent. He also thanked his fellow creatives, acknowledging their valued input.
