New UWI Alumni Association Executive Elected

Attorney-at-Law and graduate of the Faculty of Law at The UWI Cave Hill Campus Dario Welch was elected President of the UWI Alumni Association, UWIAA, (Barbados Chapter) at its Annual General Meeting held virtually recently. Cecilia Neblett-Brathwaite, a Behaviour Change Specialist was elected Vice-President. The full Executive which will serve for the next year includes Patricia Brathwaite-Marshall who was returned unopposed as Treasurer, De Carla Applewhaite returned as Public Relations Officer; and Ryan Dalrymple returned as Floor Member. The executive welcomed a new Secretary Ke-andra Prescod, Assistant Secretary-Treasurer Pedro Medford, and Floor Members Ebrahim Lakhi, Penelope Agard and Solomon Hunte. Henderson Williams will serve as Immediate Past President.
The UWIAA, formerly the Guild of Graduates, aims to support the social, educational and career interests of the University’s alumni and works to preserve and promote the mission and values of the University. The UWIAA’s mandate is to engage all alumni of The University of the West Indies in advancing and supporting the educational, research and service mission of the University wherever a chapter is established.
The new President of the Association who is also a graduate of the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad is no stranger to UWI advocacy. As an undergraduate, he was a member of UWISTAT (UWI Students Today Alumni Tomorrow), the Student Ambassadors corps under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and since graduating he has served as an Alumni Ambassador. Dario Welch brings a new youthful energy to the leadership of the association. Thanking members for their vote of confidence in him he said, “I look forward and hope to engage alumni of all ages; it is my hope to truly get our youthful alumni to rally around the University and to provide support to the University wherever possible.”
His Vice-President Cecelia Neblett-Brathwaite is a double alumna of The UWI, holding a M.Sc. in Social Work (Administration and Management) and a B.Sc. with honours in Social Work from the Cave Hill Campus. Ms. Neblett-Brathwaite also holds an Associate Degree in Marketing Management, and a Certificate in Technical Vocational Training in Adult Education from Erdiston Teachers’ Training College. She is also certified in Para-Legal Studies and Substance Abuse Counselling from the Barbados Community College, and Guidance and Counselling from the UWI Open Campus.
She was a facilitator with the National Productivity Council, the UWI Cave Hill Campus and the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology.
