Bio

Dr. Subir Gupta has been a distinguished figure at UWI, Cave Hill's Faculty of Medical Sciences since 2008, contributing significantly from the institution's inception. His academic path commenced with a Ph.D. from the University of Calcutta, transitioning into roles such as an exercise physiologist at India's Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports and a work physiologist at the Steel Authority of India Limited.

Dr. Gupta's teaching voyage began at P.S. Medical College in Karamsad, Gujarat, followed by a position as an Assistant Professor at the Mahatma Gandhi National Institute of Medical Sciences in Jaipur, India. Before joining UWI, Dr. Gupta furthered his teaching and research expertise as an Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and at Misurata University Medical College, Libya. At UWI, he teaches neurophysiology to DM Psychiatry students and delivers lectures on a broad spectrum of physiology subjects to MBBS and Bachelor of Health Science students, showcasing his vast experience and dedication to medical physiology.

Research Areas

Dr. Gupta is passionately committed to researching exercise physiology, focusing on how athletes' cardiovascular and metabolic systems respond during competitions and training sessions. His international acclaim is highlighted by his position as a Visiting Professor at the Jerzy Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education in Katowice, Poland, where he collaborates on research projects within the realms of exercise physiology and sports science. In addition to his work in exercise physiology, Dr. Gupta has also explored medical education, contributing to the field through research papers published in renowned journals worldwide.
