Our Research Facility consists of two laboratory spaces, one of which is subdivided into specialised rooms. The main laboratory comprises 12 workstations with ample storage and units which can be used as an office area. The vast space is a wonderful feature of our Laboratory and each specialized room is designated for a different function. These include staining, histological applications, and tissue culture.
Upon application approval, you will be required to lease a workstation for the duration of your project. This lease can be extended at any point during your study. You will be granted access to a number of amenities which include:
- 24hr access to the Research space
- Cold room storage
- Printing Facility
- Assistance with the ordering of supplies and consumables and the privileges that accompany such
- Designated Disposal unit
The FMS research laboratory is currently a basic medical and natural science laboratory which will develop into a health based laboratory offering commercial analytical services.
The implementation of standards is one of the Mission statements of our laboratory as standards ensure the quality, reliability and integrity of your study. Good Laboratory Practices are enforced as we work towards GLP compliance and ISO certification. Our laboratory is also governed by a Quality Management System which manages our processes, policies and protocols.
WHO CAN LEASE A RESEARCH STATION
Each approved Research project is assigned a workstation which is leased on a monthly basis. These stations can be leased by:
- A non-Faculty member
- An Academic of the Faculty of Medical Sciences
- Or a collaborative project between the two listed above
HOW TO LEASE A RESEARCH STATION
This is a simple THREE step process.
- Fill out the Application Form (click here) online or send to the below addresses:
- Once your Application form has been approved, you will receive a letter which acts as a soft agreement for the lease of the work station. A meeting will be arranged where further information will be provided.
- A deposit is required and these fees are made payable to the Bursary Department, addressed to:
