The World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) is a global professional organization representing family physicians and general practitioners from all regions of the world. It was founded in 1972 and celebrated its 50th anniversary where it all began in Australia. Between October 26 and 29, over 2500 Primary Care Physicians attended the WONCA World Conference in Sydney. Among the attendees were Professor Peter Adams (former Dean, FMS, Cave Hill) and Dr Euclid Morris (Lecturer in Family Medicine, FMS, Cave Hill). On the first morning immediately after the opening ceremony, Professor Adams presented a paper – “The impact of measuring Blood pressure in both arms on hypertension and cardiovascular risk assessment: The ECHORN cohort study”. This paper was coauthored by Dr Morris and other researchers from the Eastern Caribbean Health Outcomes Network (ECHORN). Professor Adams also had a poster presentation which generated considerable interest – “Risky footwear practices and the utility of the Slipping Slipper Sign in people with diabetes in Barbados”. Coauthors were Dr Joseph Herbert former part-time lecturer in Family Medicine with the FMS, and from the GACDRC Dr Christina Howitt and Professor Nigel Unwin.
