Centre for English Language Learning
The Centre for English Language Learning at the UWI, Cave Hill was established in September 2017. However, our English as a Second Language (ESL) programme has been offered since 2008.
The ESL programme began as an English for Business Professionals course for employees of the Venezuelan oil company, Petróleos de Venezuela S. A. (PDVSA). Over the years, we have had students from various countries including Martinique, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Brazil, Europe and Africa. We currently offer English courses with various specialisations including, Tourism, Sustainable Destination Management, Interpreting, Health Care and TESOL. Our courses are intensive, highly interactive and led by a dynamic team of teachers, who are all certified in the Teaching of English/ Linguistics. In addition, our state-of-the-art teaching facilities at the University of the West Indies provide an ideal environment to support your learning online or face-face-face.

The University of the West Indies has campuses at Cave Hill in Barbados, St. Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago, Mona in Jamaica, Five Islands in Antigua and Barbuda, and the Open Campus which serves other Caribbean territories. The total student body is over 25,000 with about 120,000 alumni across the world. The Cave Hill Campus in Barbados was established in 1963 and is fully accredited. We offer a wide range of programmes through our seven Faculties: Law, Sport, Humanities and Education, Science and Technology, Social Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Culture, Creative and Performing Arts.
Our campus overlooks the island’s capital and principal commercial centre, Bridgetown, which is just five miles away. The university community in Barbados offers an inviting, intimate, friendly atmosphere on beautiful grounds with simple, low-rise buildings. On campus you will find a cafeteria, student health clinic, sports facilities (including a student gym), a small supermarket, a pharmacy, the university bookshop and a restaurant.
