RBC Global Virtual Race for the Kids 2021

 
We are excited to announce that The UWI, Cave Hill Campus is again partnering with RBC Royal Bank for the 2nd Global Virtual Race for the Kids, on the weekend of October 16 & 17, 2021.   Over the past five years, with assistance from the RBC Race for the Kids, The UWI has been able to provide scholarships and other grants for students in financial need.  This aid is needed now more than ever.  The coronavirus pandemic has left many Caribbean families facing financial hardship and mental strain. The eruption of the La Soufriere Volcano in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in April of 2021 and the devastating Hurricane Elsa in July 2021 greatly exacerbated these challenges for many.  We need your support to continue programs which help our students pay fees, purchase technology, equipment, school supplies, food and cover other basic living expenses.  Student mental health is still our number one priority as we raise funds to provide timely interventions and meaningful support for our students.

How Can I Participate?
This is a completely virtual event.  There will be no live face to face activity on Race weekend.  It is a crowdfunding marathon as well as a personal and team fitness challenge. To participate you should:
 
  1. Go to the global website - https://www.rbcraceforthekids.com  Select your location and the charity partner you want to support.  Or go directly to the Cave Hill Campus page - https://www.rbcraceforthekids.com/fundraisers/TeamUWIBarbados. You may also support other charities if you wish.
  2. Choose your race distance from those provided 1, 3, 5, 10 and 15k; or make up your own.  You can run or walk as much or as little as you want.  Some may opt to make this a team fitness challenge.
  3. Make a personal donation.  The minimum amount is US$10.
  4. Fundraise for the cause.  You can start your personal fundraising page to participate as a fundraiser.  This quick, easy and very user-friendly process can be completed in less than five minutes from anywhere, anytime or any device, including your cellphone.  You can personalise your page by adding a profile picture.  You can create and name a team and upload pictures.  You can invite your friends, family and work colleagues to donate and participate by sending them invites via email, WhatsApp, SMS, Linked In, Facebook, Instagram etc.  These messages are all composed for you, but you can customise them if you wish.  You will receive an email whenever a donation comes in to your page. All the donations go to the RBC global team and at the end of the Race, RBC will forward all donations collected for The UWI, Cave Hill to us.
  5. Download the race app.  Once you register for the race, you will receive a code to download the app in the Apple or Google Play app stores.  In Training Mode, you can log your training activity prior to the race.  On race weekend, you can track your race and upload your route and photos to be eligible for medals and other prizes.
  6. Complete your run or walk on Race weekend in your own space in your own way. Wear your RFTK t-shirt.  Share your story by uploading a photo(s) to your social media with the hashtags #RBCRacefortheKidsUWIBarbados and #UWICaveHill and other hashtags if you wish – e.g. #Barbados, #TeamCaveHill.

  3. Showcase The UWI Campus on the global stage.  Our page tells our story and that of our students who have benefited.  This can motivate persons around the globe to support our cause.
